But then, you suddenly become aware that it's not really funny. It's just plain bad. And the laughter you were experiencing morphs into a wistful, melancholic sound.
After all is said and done, you are left with a sense of bewilderment. You wonder about the purpose of it all. Was this some kind of twisted art experiment?
Or were we just simply unfortunate enough to witness this spectacle unfold?

Awful Day Ever
It all started with a case of uncontrollable hair. I couldn't do it to look presentable. As I was dashing out the door, I trippedover and badly all over myself. To make matters worse, I was completely behind schedule for work.
I flustered. My {boss|friend|was absolutely furious. I managed to explain, but it was no use.
The rest of the day was an absolute nightmare. Everything. I stay awake.
By the time I got home, I was exhausted. This day, this horrific day will be forever remembered as an epic fail.

A series/chain/cascade of unfortunate/awful/disastrous events unfolded/occurred/piled on top each other, leaving me feeling like I was in a nightmare/horror movie/comedy of errors. It's the kind of situation where you just want to scream into a pillow.
